Moving into downtown Austin? There are a few things you should know…

So you’re moving downtown into a chic new condo or apartment in the heart of Austin. Great! However, there are a few things you need to know when soliciting moving quotes:

  1. Certificate of Insurance – Most downtown locations require a certificate of insurance with a $1-3 million dollar general liability. This protects the building itself if there is any damage from the move. Many moving companies claim they have it, when in fact they do not. Always request a copy of the certificate of insurance before agreeing to their services. We have this insurance and have led the industry with compliance standards for over 30 years.
  2. Elevator Reservations – Most downtown properties require you (the resident) to reserve an elevator to facilitate the move, and most limit the reservation to a 2-3 hour window. Most moves into high-rise properties take 4-5 hours as it takes time to travel 20 floors up and down. This requires coordination with the property manager which many moving companies leave to you, the client. Instead, we manage every aspect of the property coordination for you as part of our total move management services. If the move will take two days because of elevator limitations, we’ll split the move and coordinate with the property managers directly.
  3. Parking Permits – There is always something going on in Austin. From SXSW, ACL Fest to marathons, parades, you name it – there are always street closures to consider when moving downtown on any given date. This also translates to the need for parking permits near many properties as street or garage parking for loading/unloading is unavailable. Unlike many moving companies, we keep a calendar of events going on downtown to be sure we’re aware of possible closures and special permit requirements for loading/unloading. This also affects the number of movers you may need for the job as one may be required to stay with the truck at all times to guard property and the truck.

Moving into a downtown, urban environment is exciting, but also very different from a suburban move. There are different things to consider outside of a standard move, and as you move into this new environment, you’ll want to be sure to hire an expert service that understands the limitations and will provide full coordination services to ensure your move is as easy and stress free as possible. With over 30 years of experience, proper insurance requirements, and good working relationships with residential and commercial property managers throughout downtown Austin, we’ve got you covered.
